Baked French Toast

All you need:

  • 1/2 pound Hy-Vee unsalted butter
  • 1/2 c. packed Hy-Vee brown sugar
  • 2 c. Hy-Vee skim milk
  • 5 Hy-Vee large eggs
  • 1 tsp Hy-Vee vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp Hy-Vee ground cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg
  • 1 loaf Hy-Vee Bakery Italian bread, cut into 1-inch thick slices

All you do:

  1. In a 10-by-15-inch jelly roll pan, place butter and brown sugar. Heat in 350-degree oven until melted, about 10 minutes. Stir to combine.
  2. Meanwhile, in a small bowl combine milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg, whisking until well combined. Dip bread slices into egg mixture; place on melted butter mixture.
  3. Bake, uncovered, 20 to 25 minutes or until bread is slightly crisp.
