Take back control from nicotine!

Our Recommendation

NicoDerm® and Nicorette®

How Can It Help?Jan 2018 Pharm Pick

Nicotine replacement products (NRTs) help curb tobacco cravings and reduce withdrawal symptoms during the quitting process.

How Should I Use It?

  • NicoDerm CQ patches are to be used based on the number of cigarettes smoked each day. If you smoke 10 or more times per day, begin with the 21 mg patch.
  • The 21 mg patch should be worn daily for 4 weeks, then step down to the 14 mg patch for 2 weeks, then finally the 7 mg patch for 2 weeks. If you smoke less than 10 times per day, begin with the 14 mg patch for 6 weeks, then use the 7 mg patch for 2 weeks.
  • Nicorette lozenges and gum are to be used based on when you first use tobacco each day. If your first use is within 30 minutes of waking, use the 4 mg strength; if it is after 30 minutes, use the 2 mg strength.

Important Considerations

  • Do not use any NRT product if you have recently had a heart attack, have an irregular heartbeat or have angina. Use should also be avoided if you are under 18 or pregnant.
  • The site of the patch should be rotated daily to avoid skin irritation. Nicorette gum should be chewed slowly; avoid any food or drink for 15 minutes prior to and during use. Nicorette lozenges should be allowed to dissolve slowly; avoid any food or drink for 15 minutes prior and during use.
  • Adverse reactions to nicotine replacement products may include headache, upset stomach, difficulty sleeping, skin irritation with the patch and jaw soreness with the gum.

Reduce Food Waste

Leftovers are a great way to use foods in your fridge that otherwise would go to waste. Try to plan one meal per week that involves leftovers.
