Our Recommendation

Nexium

How Can It Help?

Esomeprazole is used to treat frequent heartburn that occurs 2 or more days a week. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is not intended for immediate relief of heartburn because it may take 1 to 4 days to see the full effect.

How Should I Use It?

For self-treatment of heartburn, take one capsule every day for up to 14 days. Take 30 to 60 minutes before eating, preferably before breakfast. Another 14-day course can be repeated after 4 months if needed.

Important CondiserationsNexium

If heartburn persists for more than 14 days or comes back within 4 months, consult with a doctor before taking again. A medical evaluation may be needed to determine if there is a more serious condition.

Do not take more than one capsule a day unless directed to by a doctor. Remember that it may take 1 to 4 days to see the full effect.

The most common side effects may include but are not limited to diarrhea, constipation, and headache. If you get severe diarrhea, stop use and contact doctor.

Do not use and contact doctor immediately if you have heartburn with lightheadedness, sweating, dizziness or chest pain.

Do not use if you have trouble or pain swallowing food, vomiting with blood, or bloody or black stools.
Ask your pharmacist before using if taking warfarin or other blood-thinning medications, prescription antifungal or anti-yeast medications, tacrolimus, mycophenolate, prescription antiretrovirals for HIV, or methotrexate.

Reduce Food Waste

Leftovers are a great way to use foods in your fridge that otherwise would go to waste. Try to plan one meal per week that involves leftovers.
