Hy-Vee Arena

Kansas City, MO (Oct. 5, 2018) — After years of limited use, a fully renovated/reimagined building brings new life to the former Kemper Arena and the Stockyard District of Kansas City. Today, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place with Foutch Architecture and Development, Hy-Vee and city officials to commemorate the official opening of the new Hy-Vee Arena. Foutch Architecture and Development invested more than $39 million in the infrastructure and repurposed the building - originally built for spectator performances and sporting events - into a multi-use, state-of-the-art recreational facility. Commercial and retail tenants now include sports training and medicine, professional offices, sports-related retail, and food and beverage outlets.

Hy-Vee Arena is now a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art sports arena and hub for hundreds of local, regional and national tournaments each year. The arena design includes the addition of a second floor, providing more than 84,000 square feet of sports and event space. In addition to the two floors of column-free hardwood floors, one of the largest indoor tracks in the U.S., measuring 350 meters, is perched over the new 52,000-square-foot second floor.

Historic Kemper Arena was constructed 1973–1974 on the site of the former Kansas City Stockyards, just west of downtown in the West Bottoms. The building was revolutionary at the time in its simplicity and the fact it did not have interior columns obstructing views. In 2016, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Specialty businesses within the facility will include speed and agility training, cross-fit, a fitness gym, hydrotherapy, golf simulators, e-gaming, dining, retail and commercial offices. Tenants with current leases in place include: Trilogy, The Escape House, Cool Beans, Celebration of Life, Oh! Café, Revolutionary Wellness, St. Luke’s, Cherry Sportsgear (pending TI), The Smoothie Shop (pending TI), The Real Spa (pending TI), Kimberly Young Fashions, MindSport, Tycon Companies, HOPE Oasis Consulting, The Laya Center, Will Gregory Public Relations Company, Divergent, Ball Up , Midwest Adaptive Sports, UClick TV, All American Diner, Wise Power Lounge (Golf Simulators), KC Crew and Foutch Architecture and Development.
