Council Bluffs Native Jim Wheeler Joins the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 9, 2019) — Council Bluffs native Jim Wheeler was named to the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame in December. Wheeler, retail bakery supervisor, was recently inducted as the 2018 Retail Supervisor of the Year at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting.

Wheeler was nominated for the honor by his peers, who called out his enthusiastic and professionalism for Hy-Vee. Wheeler is a positive supervisor, hardworking and is very innovative when it comes to generating sales ideas.

Hy-Vee Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker said Wheeler is a great example of a retail supervisor.

“Jim sets a great example of what a supervisor should be,” Edeker said. “I couldn’t be more proud to have a dedicated supervisor like Jim who is humble, happy, creative and supportive.”

Wheeler’s career began in 1988 at the Mall of the Bluffs Hy-Vee in Council Bluffs as a part-time kitchen clerk and then moved to a new position as a full-time baker. Wheeler received his first assignment as a bakery department manager in 1994 at the 90th and Center Hy-Vee in Omaha, transferring to Papillion in 2009 and moving to the 51st and Center Hy-Vee in Omaha in the same capacity. In 2014, he moved to his current position as a bakery supervisor.

Wheeler graduated from Lewis Central High School and attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.
