Cedar Rapids Native Dan Strait Joins the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 9, 2019) — Cedar Rapids native Dan Strait was named to the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame in December. Strait, category director of supplies for non-retail, was recently inducted as the 2018 Staff Member of the Year at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting.
Strait was nominated for the honor by his peers, who called out his incredible job at every position he has held in the company, and the way he has tackled each challenge of making Hy-Vee’s supplies purchasing process more efficient.
Hy-Vee Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker said Strait is a great example of a Hy-Vee success story.
“Dan has taken the responsibility to reduce supply expenses to a new level,” Edeker said. “Dan has done an outstanding job saving our stores money and searching out savings in our supply expense and is very deserving of this honor,” Edeker said.
Strait started working at Hy-Vee in a variety of locations around eastern Iowa. He was quickly promoted to produce manager at Harlan and later transferred to Moline in the same capacity. In 1999, Strait moved to Charles City where he served as manager of perishables and produce manager. His career then led him to drugstore locations in Charles City and Cedar Rapids, where he assumed the role of manager of store operations. In August 2006, Strait was chosen to lead the Marion Drugstore as a store director, promoted to store setup supervisor in 2008 and then director of store setup in December 2012. He moved to his current position of category director of supplies non-retail in 2017. Strait was first inducted into Hy-Vee’s Hall of Fame in 2013 as Department Director of the Year.
Strait graduated from John Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and attended Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
