WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 9, 2019) — Gary Goodhall, who retired in 2014 as Hy-Vee’s vice president of business development, was named to the Hy-Vee Hall of Fame in December. Goodhall was named the 2018 Chairman’s Humanitarian Award winner at the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting. This honor is given to a person who exemplified the Hy-Vee fundamentals in their day-to-day life and throughout their career with Hy-Vee.

Hy-Vee Chairman, CEO and President Randy Edeker stated that Goodhall was the perfect individual to receive this honor.

“Gary represents the fundamental characteristics that have helped Hy-Vee be successful, which include being helpful, friendly, honest, respectful and dedicated,” Edeker said. “Gary is always encouraging, supportive and busy being Hy-Vee’s biggest cheerleader. He has been a strong, passionate leader for four decades, and has taken on every task given to him and led them all to success – all while maintaining the helpful smile that we promise at Hy-Vee. There is no better way to celebrate the culmination of an incredible career than giving Gary an award that celebrates the true culture of Hy-Vee.”

Goodhall’s long career at Hy-Vee began in 1973 when he started work as a part-time employee at one of the Cedar Rapids Drug Town locations. In 1979, he was named assistant manager at Cherokee Drug Town. Goodhall received his first of several store director assignments at Des Moines Drug Town in 1986 and later that year moved to Iowa City Drug Town in the same role. Goodhall was named store director at Marion Drug Town in 1990 and in 1992, he moved to Marshalltown Drug Town in the same capacity. In 1995, he served a term on the Hy-Vee Board of Directors. One year later he was named director of operations, Drug Town, in 1996 and in 1998 assistant vice president of pharmacy and Drug Town. Goodhall served on the Hy-Vee Board of Directors in 1999 and 2006. In 2011, Goodhall was named vice president of business development. He retired from Hy-Vee in 2014 after 41 years of service.
