FITCHBURG, WI – Officials with Hy-Vee, Inc. joined Fitchburg Mayor Shawn Pfaff and members of the Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce for a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday to mark the start of construction on a new Hy-Vee supermarket in Fitchburg.

The new 85,000-square foot Fitchburg store will be located in the Orchard Pointe commercial area at the intersection of U.S. Highway 18/151 Verona Road and Highway PD (McKee Road), next to the Super Target store. The full-service supermarket will feature an in-store restaurant with a variety of dining options, a pharmacy with drive-up service, a HealthMarket offering natural and organic products, the services of a staff dietitian and a chef, a wine & spirits store, a Hy-Vee Club Room for classes and meetings, and much more.

Construction on the $18 million project is underway, with an opening expected in the fall of 2013. Jeremy Gosch, Assistant Vice President, Operations for Hy-Vee’s Northeast District, said the store will employ upwards of 400 people in full- and part-time positions.

“We’ve been looking forward to this day for some time,” Gosch said. “We believe Fitchburg is going to be a good location for Hy-Vee, and we’re confident Hy-Vee will be a good neighbor to the other Orchard Pointe businesses and a good corporate citizen in the community.”

"We are excited to have a wonderful company like Hy-Vee come to the City of Fitchburg,” Mayor Shawn Pfaff said. “This project will provide Fitchburg and area residents even more quality shopping and grocery options, and will be a true asset to our community."

The Fitchburg store will be Hy-Vee’s third store in Wisconsin. The company’s first Madison store opened in 2009, and a second store is currently under construction at Westgate Mall in Madison, with an opening planned for the spring of 2013.
