I have tried every diet book out there. So far, the only thing that's worked for me is a raw diet but I never can stick to it for long! __________________________  Get Pregnant Quickly

You are definitely not alone in your situation. While diets can work, I prefer to not use diets with my weight loss clients. The reason for this is because when someone goes "on" a diet, they tend to eventually go "off" the diet and then go back to their old eating habits which causes them to regain the weight that they had lost. I have seen this countless times.

I recommend making changes for a healthier lifestyle. "Life" is the key part of that phrase. Losing weight is challenging, but maintaining that weight loss is even more difficult. Start by making small changes within your life. This could include drinking more water, adding exercise to your week, switching to whole grains or increasing your fruit & vegetable intake. The trick to success is to maintain these changes and having them develop into good habits.

When it comes to your diet, don't focus on low-fat or low-carb or high protein eating. You want your meals to be balanced with a variety of foods and they should be eaten in moderation. Don't forget fruits and vegetables at meals and snacks, and watch the portion sizes of protein and grains.
Remember to also treat yourself from time to time. I use the 80/15 rule; 80% of the time I eat balanced meals and snacks, and 15% of the time I indulge in special treats. This allows me to not feel deprived of my favorite foods.

When it comes to physical activity, being active is JUST AS IMPORTANT as eating healthy. The trick to exercise is to do something that you enjoy, this will make it feel less like work. Have a friend join you so that you have a support system. My secret to staying active is having a goal in mind that I can work towards. Be sure to start slow when becoming active and work your way up to longer and/or more strenuous exercise.

I highly recommend visiting with your local Hy-Vee dietitian and scheduling a Supermarket Tour, you will learn a lot about making the right food choices. They will also available for personal consultations and they can help you make appropriate goals for you based on your current diet and needs.

Please feel free to ask any additional questions, and happy holidays!

I feel you on the whole dieting struggle - I feel like my own journey with diets have been a constant up and down. But here's some tips that I've collected that may help you as well:

Ease your way into the diet - if you go from 0 to 60 from the beginning, then your chances of burning out are likely to be quicker. For example, if you use a single day as a break, then it may help your mentality throughout the diet.

Track your progress - there are a variety of ways to determine whether you're making strides in your diet. Keeping a food journal can help you track your food intake, and can have a massive effect on your diet. In addition, a health screening can provide you valuable information throughout the process at a more scientific level.

Don't get discouraged - just because you don't lose the pounds in the first few weeks, there's no reason to give up. Just keep going at it and the weight will slip off eventually. Its a long process, but one with a lot of reward at the end.

People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. So you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is really what you need.

"If you don't like plain water, try adding citrus or a splash of juice, or brew infused teas like mango or peach, which have lots of flavor but no calories,"

Start by focusing on getting the recommended 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

"It sounds like a lot, but it is well worth it, because at the same time you are meeting your fiber goals and feeling more satisfied from the volume of food," says chef Laura Pansiero, RD.

You're also less likely to overeat because fruits and vegetables displace fat in the diet. And that's not to mention the health benefits of fruits and vegetables.

Jackson, that was a real eye opener. But do you seriously think people doesn't know the difference between thirst and hunger?

About diet, i'll be in the side of fruits of vegetables. Eat less!

Everybody's given great advice so far - I just got out of a really tough spell thanks to the help of this place and they recommended that I get on a low-carb diet to help ease the transition into a healthier lifestyle. Of course, it won't work for everyone but there's definitely more than one way to lose weight effectively.
