I had a really high sodium diet yesterday.  Today I feel awful.  What foods or drinks should I have today so my body feels better?

Your best bet after over-doing it on salty foods is to drink plenty of water.  64 ounces of water spread throughout the day is a good goal.  You might also want to include some high potassium foods in your diet.  Fruits such as bananas and caneloupe and vegetables like potatoes, spinach, tomatoes and winter squash are good choices.  The only other suggestion I can offer is to make sure you stay active.  Keeping your metabolism moving will help your system clear out the excess salt.

Drink more water or you can also try green tea. Teas are great antioxidants, too.

Hi katludill,

I would definitely follow their advices and consume more water. Don't get on the scale for a few days and work out all that sodium with cardio.

try watching your sodium intake by looking at the labels , look for serving size, the sodium on the label goes by serving size. so ,if it says 20mg sodium that's per serving.  keep your sodium down to 2000mg a day as recommended by the heart association. lots of water too.  Its not easy to do, but after a while you'll start tasting your food instead if the salt.
Another good source is the book by Don Gazzaniga  no salt, lowest sodium light meals book.
