In Response to GERD:
HI, I was recently diagnosed with GERD. Does HyVee have GERD sensitve recipes or a GERD sensitive shopping list? I don't know where to start and have no idea what to buy or what to make for my diet. Would HyVee be interested in setting up a GERD section for your Special Diets Section? Thanks!

With GERD, everyone is a little different in what affects their symptoms so it would be challenging for Hy-Vee to set up a special diet section for GERD. However, here is a list of common foods to limit in your diet that may reduce your symptoms:
·Peppermint and Spearmint
·Caffeinated beverages (teas, coffee, colas, energy drinks and other caffeinated soft drinks)·Decaffeinated beverages and decaffeinated regular teas
·High-fat foods, including- 2% milk, whole milk, cream, high-fat cheeses, high-fat yogurt, chocolate milk, cocoa, fried meats, bacon, sausage, salami, pepperoni, bologna, frankfurters/hot dogs, deep-fried foods, nuts, nut butters, high-fat desserts and consuming more than 8 tablespoons of oil, butter and/or shortening per day.
·Any fruits or vegetables that cause symptoms (These can vary from person to person).
There are also lifestyle changes that may help you reduce the frequency of your symptoms:
· Maintaining a healthy weight
· Avoid tight-fitting clothes
· Eat smaller meals
· Don't lie down after a meal, wait at least three hours after eating before lying down or going to bed. Avoiding eating a late night evening snack would be a good practice to follow.
· Elevate the head of your bed.
· Don't smoke.
If you are still having issues, I highly recommend consulting with your local Hy-Vee dietitian for more individualized guidance.
