Blooming Amaryllis

Q: I bought an amaryllis this winter. It didn’t bloom and is still green. I have continued watering it. What should I do now? Can it be planted outside? Sherry – Blairsburg

A: Don’t plant it outside. Take the bulb out of the pot and trim the roots. Put it into a dormant state using a brown paper bag with vermiculite or pearlite. This preserves the bulb. Sometime in October, you can re-pot it and it’ll bloom for Christmas.
