If your child has not had the flu vaccine before and he or she is younger than nine years old, plan on needing two doses of the vaccine about four weeks apart. If your child is over nine years old, or has already had the vaccine, one dose is enough.

Though adults have fully developed immune systems, it is recommended that adults in close contact with children receive the vaccine.

Be sure to vaccinate the whole family for flu season as early as possible. For children under five years old, a trip to the family pediatrician is necessary. For the rest of the family, stop by your local Hy-Vee Pharmacy today to get a flu shot and a 20-cent Hy-Vee Fuel Saver discount.
